What to Avoid When Writing a Persuasive Essay

What to Avoid When Writing a Persuasive EssayWhat to Avoid When Writing a Persuasive Essay is an article written by Conrad Robinson and Maggie Robson. It is available in two editions, the original and the revised version. In the original edition, the reader gets the advantage of Conrad Robinson's unique insights on how to improve his or her essay by giving him or her a few suggestions on what to avoid while writing it.What to Avoid When Writing a Persuasive Essay is the best book I have ever read on the subject of writing a persuasive essay. The title of the book conveys the essence of the book - avoiding some of the things that you should avoid while writing. Here are some things Conrad Robinson and Maggie Robson have discussed in the second edition:To get it done: Your purpose in writing your essay should be to convince somebody to accept your opinion on a certain subject. The best way to do this is to give an interesting introduction and then to describe your argument by adding th e right supporting data. However, when you provide such information, your subject is likely to get lost in your list of facts. There is nothing wrong with this but there are other ways to overcome this problem, such as using the right grammar and punctuation.A long argument: It is hard to write an essay that would entice somebody without providing any questionable data. The best way to do this is to analyze your argument and analyze why it is right. When you do this, you will find that it would not take too much time to actually convince somebody. This is an opportunity to explain yourself and take the reader along with you.Too much theory: You will not find much technical stuff in what to Avoid When Writing a Persuasive Essay. Instead, Conrad Robinson and Maggie Robson have highlighted important aspects that you should pay attention to when you are writing your essay. You should never forget that when you start writing your essay, you have to decide whether you want to convince som eone or whether you are writing a thesis statement. Once you have decided this, then the next thing to keep in mind is that you should study your topic thoroughly and only add data that may possibly be relevant to the topic. What to Avoid When Writing a Persuasive Essay can be a valuable tool for students who are preparing for their first year of school. Students can benefit greatly from reading this book. The best part is that students will find the advice given very practical since the authors have very practical techniques and tips that they themselves have employed while writing their own essays.I can say that Conrad Robinson and Maggie Robson have written a book that contains what every student should read. The authors have been writing essays for years so they know what exactly to avoid when writing a persuasive essay. The book comes at a great price but if you take this advice and use them well, you will write an excellent essay and win the essay contest in no time.

River King Review Essay Example

River King Review Paper Essay on River King It is said that children can be very cruel. After reading the novel by Alice Hoffman River King, I can not disagree. Perhaps nothing criticized the famous TV series School (and, perhaps, why scold). It is really a lot of truth, though, I have not had to deal with childhood cruelty. So, teenager Gus Pierce came to study at the elite school in a small town. And everything is good, but thats just he was very unlucky too, and besides, unlike the others. Only one girl knew and loved him a true friend Carlin Leander. Also black sheep in the team. But once they had an argument. The next morning, Gus was found dead in the river. What happened that night? Is the young man was so upset that he took his own life? Or maybe he was killed, but who? And why the police did not want to intervene in this matter? But it took some time, and I once again decided to take up the creation of Alice Hoffman. This time, everything turned out more than well. The novel River King I liked him a lot more. Maybe he just got in the mood, but definitely left a mark in my heart. He forced sincerely empathize with the heroes. After losing a loved one is very difficult. But you should try to be strong to survive the grief and move on, if so ordered life. By the way, based on the book by Alice Hoffman River King in 2005. The film was shot. Books and Blogs About Cultural Appropriation

Books and Blogs About Cultural Appropriation Cultural appropriation is a complicated topic. Although the issue often appears in news headlines when clothing chains such as Urban Outfitters or singers such as Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry face accusations of cultural appropriation, the concept remains difficult for many people to grasp. The most simple definition of cultural appropriation is that it occurs when members of a dominant culture borrow from the cultures of minority groups without their input. Typically those doing the â€Å"borrowing,† or exploiting, lack a contextual understanding of what makes the cultural symbols, art forms and modes of expression significant. Despite their ignorance of the ethnic groups from which they borrow, members of the majority culture have frequently profited from cultural exploitation. Given that cultural appropriation is such a multi-layered issue, a number of books have been written about the trend. Members of marginalized groups have also launched websites specifically devoted to educating the public about cultural appropriation. This overview highlights noteworthy literature and websites about this persistent phenomenon. Cultural Appropriation And The Arts This book by James O. Young uses philosophy as the foundation to examine the â€Å"moral and aesthetic issues to which cultural appropriation gives rise.† Young highlights how white musicians such as Bix Beiderbeck to Eric Clapton have gained from appropriating African-American musical styles. Young also addresses the consequences of cultural appropriation and whether the trend is morally objectionable. Moreover, can appropriation lead to artistic successes? With Conrad G. Brunk, Young also edited a book called the Ethics of Cultural Appropriation. In addition to exploring cultural appropriation in the arts, the book focuses on the practice in archaeology, museums and religion. Who Owns Culture? - Appropriation and Authenticity in American Law Fordham University Law Professor Susan Scafidi asks who owns artforms such as rap music, global fashion and geisha culture, to name a few. Scafidi points out that members of culturally exploited groups typically have little legal recourse when others use their traditional dress, music forms and other practices as inspiration. The book is billed as the first to investigate why the United States offers legal protections for works of literature but not for folklore. Scafidi asks larger questions as well. Specifically, what does cultural appropriation reveal about American culture overall. Is it as innovative as widely thought or the byproduct of â€Å"cultural kleptomania?† Borrowed Power: Essays on Cultural Appropriation This collection of essays edited by Bruce Ziff focuses specifically on Western appropriation of Native American cultures. The book explores the artifacts, symbols and concepts typically targeted for appropriation. A range of people contributed to the book, including Joane Cardinal-Schubert, Lenore Keeshig-Tobias, J. Jorge Klor de Alva, Hartman H. Lomawaima and Lynn S. Teague. Native Appropriations This long-running blog examines representations of Native Americans in popular culture through a critical lens. Adrienne Keene, who is of Cherokee descent, runs the blog. She is pursuing a doctorate in Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education and uses the Native Appropriations blog to examine images of Native Americans in film, fashion, sports and more. Keene also offers tips to the public on combating cultural appropriation of Native peoples and discussing the issue with the person who insists on dressing up as a Native American for Halloween or supporting the use of Native Americans as mascots. Beyond Buckskin The Beyond Buckskin website not only addresses the appropriation of Native American fashion but also features a boutique with jewelry, accessories, clothing and more crafted by Native American designers. â€Å"Inspired by relevant historical and contemporary Native American clothing design and art, Beyond Buckskin promotes cultural appreciation, social relationships, authenticity and creativity,† according to the website. Jessica Metcalfe (Turtle Mountain Chippewa) maintains the website. She has a doctorate in American Indian Studies from the University of Arizona.

Procurement and Supply Function in the Organisation Assignment - 4

Procurement and Supply Function in the Organisation - Assignment Example To improve the profile of the function in organisations, various strategies can be employed. These include partnering with other organisations, fostering achievement of an optimal operating model, prioritisation of supply chain risks, moving beyond cost savings and incorporating systems and technology. As regards, partnerships, it is important that the organisation engage early with the stakeholders. Early engagement with the stakeholders should be done in the planning stage to avoid to be effective. There is also a need for the organisation to establish policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in the implementation of procurement and supply (Government Procurement Development Group, 2010, p.1). The policies help in ensuring that the procurement procedures are accountable, editable, ethical, legal, economically effective and social and environmentally responsible. Procurement describes the process of purchasing goods and services. In practice, it involves the preparation and the processing of a demand of a commodity until the end receipts and approval of the payment for the goods and services. There is a variety of activities involved in the process. These include purchase planning, determination of standards, analysis of value, development of specifications, negotiation of prices, control of the stores and inventory, financing, administration of the supply contract and disposals (Government Procurement Development Group, 2010, p.1). Procurement and supply function in an organisation determines if the operations of the company will continue and as such it should be done in a way that creates savings or efficiencies and other sources of added value. Capital reduction is an opportunity of creating savings and increasing efficiency in procurement.

Logistic and Supply Chain Management Research Paper

Logistic and Supply Chain Management - Research Paper Example There has been a shift of environmental responsibility from the consumer to the manufacturer. Also, the retailers have become more dominant as compared to manufacturers in the supply chain relationship and they are generally the drivers of a sustainable and green supply chain (Business Guide, 2003). A block diagram of a green supply chain is shown in Figure 1.1(Fortes, 2009). The government owns the primary responsibility to influence supply chain sustainability. The government can achieve progress on this by effective use of bans, subsidies, and incentives. The government can come up with measures such as environmental labels, licenses and product design guidelines (Business Guide, pp. 42). There are already a number of regulations in place for sustainability. These include U.S. Farm security and rural investment act (2002), European Union’s Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS), China ROHS, E.U. Cosmetics directive, E.U. Packaging Directive, Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) and REACH. In addition, there are International Standards such as WRAP, FLA, ICTI CARE, ISO 14000 and ISO 26000 for addressing environmental causes (Business for Social Responsibility, 2007). The relationship between brand owners and retailers is changing. Big retailers such as Walmart have a huge clout over the manufacturers and control the types of products they want to keep on their shelves. In addition, the retailers and brand owners are also under tremendous pressure from NGOs and other organizations working for environmental causes. This pressure comes from the opportunity cost due to a risk of reputation loss among the stakeholders. Some of the well known non-profit organizations working in collaboration with companies for environmental sustainability are Carbon Trust, Ceres, Clinton Climate Initiative, Conservation International and Earth share (Tilde, 2010).  Ã‚
